Does laser hair removal actually work?

Yes, though the accurate term is permanent hair reduction rather than removal. Most patients see substantial, lasting reduction in the treated area after a full package, with any remaining regrowth typically finer and lighter than before. Your provider will set expectations for your hair type and color at the consultation.

Is it safe for darker skin tones?

Yes. The Diolaze XL is a diode laser with built-in cooling, cleared for Fitzpatrick skin types I through VI, including tan and deeper skin tones that older alexandrite lasers and IPL devices often cannot treat safely. Your provider identifies your skin type at the consultation and sets the device accordingly.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe it as a warm snap, similar to a rubber band flick. The cooling built into the handpiece makes sessions well tolerated and most people do not need numbing cream. Sensitivity varies by area, with the bikini line and upper lip tending to be more sensitive than legs or back.

How should I prepare for a session?

Shave the area the day of or the day before. Do not wax, thread, sugar, or pluck beforehand, since the follicle needs to be intact for the laser to target it. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for about two weeks prior, and skip retinols in the treated area for three to five days. If you have a history of cold sores and are treating the face, your provider may prescribe an antiviral first.

How long does each session take?

Small areas such as the lip, chin, or underarms take about 10 to 15 minutes. Larger areas such as legs, back, or full body run 30 to 60 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

Our annual packages include nine sessions, scheduled about six weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles and each session only affects follicles currently in the active growth phase, which is why treatment is spread across a full year rather than done all at once.

Why nine sessions instead of six?

Six sessions is the common package size, but it does not cover every growth cycle in a calendar year. The extra three sessions catch the cycles a six-session package misses, which is where incomplete results usually come from.

Can men get laser hair removal?

Yes. Back, chest, shoulders, and the neckline are among our most requested areas for men, and each is available as an annual package or per session.

What is the consultation fee?

A $50 fee is due at the time of your consultation. It can be applied toward future services, and it is waived entirely if you receive treatment the same day.

Before and After Your Session

Before you come in

Shave the treatment area the day of or the day before.
Do not wax, thread, sugar, or pluck for at least two weeks beforehand. The laser targets the follicle, so the follicle needs to still be there.
Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for about two weeks.
Skip retinols in the treated area for three to five days.
If you get cold sores and we are treating your face, tell us so an antiviral can be prescribed first.

After your session

Mild redness and a warm, sunburn-like feeling for a few hours is normal.
Stay out of direct sun and skip hot tubs, saunas, and hard workouts for 24 to 48 hours.
Use sunscreen on treated areas.
You may see hairs appear over the following week or two. That is shedding, not regrowth.
Do not pluck or wax between sessions. Shaving is fine.
